Apple is expected to debut Apple Watch 3 in the coming month alongside the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus and iPhone 8. A recent report has revealed that the Apple Watch 3 will be an LTE enabled device. Fresh information claims that unlike the rumor mill had guessed, the LTE Apple Watch 3 won’t be standalone smartwatch.
When the report about LTE Apple Watch had surfaced earlier this week, various tech analysts started speculating that it would be standalone device. A standalone Apple Watch could mean that the users will not need to pair it with an iPhone to see alerts on it. Also, it could also allow users to stream songs to the smartwatch without an iPhone. However, KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo is of the view such features won’t be coming so fast to the Apple Watch.
According to Kuo, Apple Watch 3 won’t be a standalone device. He is of the view that before making it a standalone wearable device, the Cupertino company should improve the user experience of data transmission. It is likely that the Apple Watch 3 may allow users to make use of VoIP services such as FaceTime and Skype. Some of the present Apple Watch models carries support for FaceTime audio calling.
Since there is not enough inside the chassis of the Apple Watch, Kuo feels that the next-generation model may not come with support for regular SIM cards. Instead, the LTE Apple Watch may come with an embedded eSIM. This will make it possible for the Apple Watch and the iPhone to have the same phone number.
Even though Apple and Qualcomm are involved in legal battle, the Cupertino company is likely to use the Qualcomm’s chipsets to power the upcoming Apple Watch. The reason why Apple will be using Qualcomm’s chips is that it is more powerful as well as power-efficient.
Kuo has also said that there won’t be any significant change in the design of the next-generation Apple Watch but maintains the fact that LTE would the USP of the Apple Watch 3. Speculations suggest that major U.S. carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile would be supporting the LTE Apple Watch. However, all the markets may not receive the LTE enabled Apple Watch. The analyst has speculated that the company may not have any plans to develop an Android app for Apple Watch. Apart from the upcoming iPhones and Apple Watch, the company is also speculated to debut iPhone SE 2 in the first quarter of 2018.
